Home to small bouts of inspiration that I find in the Word.
A post every day to every other day (more likely to be the latter).

Faith On God's Power

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

~ 1 Corinthians 1:18

I look at this and think that in order for us to share in complete truth, we must really humble ourselves in submission to the Truth and authority of the Word. We must try to understand from the perspective of the one we are reaching out to. Really, when you contemplate on the story of the cross, it really can seem foolish and doesn't seem to make sense in accordance with everything else of the world. So of course it can be difficult to think that anyone "perishing" could believe in what we share. This is why we must totally rely on the power of God. We are not the ones capable to save people from their death — people are saved only through the workings of the Holy Spirit.
The message of the cross goes against anything that makes sense to the world. This is what can make it so difficult to share, but at the same time how can anyone remain believing in something that makes sense according to the world? I think that such opposite thinking is a small part to what makes this faith so incredibly awesome.

27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise ... 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”

~ 1 Corinthians 1:27-31

This makes me think, "Is it ok for me to pursue wisdom?" I believe it is, so long as I continue to give all glory, honour and praise to God, always boasting only in the Lord for what wisdom has been given to me.

...to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

~ 1 Corinthians 1:17

so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

1 Corinthians 2:5

I feel that as we preach, we must learn to do so with such humility. To really die to our own perceptions and ideas and completely rely on the wisdom, power and truth of God himself.
Paul came to them without eloquence or superior wisdom. In weakness, fear and much trembling. He did not preach with wise or persuasive words. (I feel that in this modern age, you might even add "to not share with the persuasion of man's entertainment or of words that is pleasing to the ear to avoid being politically incorrect — so that people could be persuaded to join the number.") But despite this, he had confidence that even in this, he came with a demonstration of the Spirit's power — all so that their faith rested on God's power and not on man's wisdom. I believe Paul gave this message absolutely straight and unfiltered. Anything more or less may even prove somewhat fatal to the true Body of Christ.

As it says in James 3:1

Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.

We must always commit ourselves into deep prayer so that we remain humble and in truth so that when people are saved after we share with them, they are truly saved for Christ. That they truly enter His fold and can in turn share in truth to those around them.
